Cambodian legal experts believe that growing cooperation between Cambodian and Chinese lawyers will enhance the provision of legal services in the Kingdom, especially for investors and entrepreneurs, thereby contributing to increased Chinese investment in Cambodia.
Speaking at the official launch of a law firm on Wednesday, Ly Chantola, Secretary of State at the Office of the Council of Ministers and Secretary General of the Legal Reform Committee (LRC), welcomed the partnership between local and international legal firms from the two nations.
However, he emphasised the need for clearly defined roles and strict adherence to the legal profession’s codes and regulations set by the Cambodian Bar Association.
“Generally, cooperation between multiple parties is seen as a positive and beneficial step—provided that such cooperation is implemented properly and effectively,” he noted.
Tola, who is a former President of the Bar Association of the Kingdom of Cambodia, also shared that he has previously promoted Cambodian lawyers during visits to China, which has resulted in collaborative efforts between Chinese legal professionals and Cambodian law firms.
He stressed that although government institutions and reform commissions are working hard to improve the legal framework, input from foreign legal experts remains essential in supporting foreign investors and business operators active in Cambodia.
Sam Chanrady, President of the Cambodia MaZu United Association, explained that the aim of establishing Mazhothaihang Cambodia Law Firm is to provide legal consultation and support to foreign investors, especially Chinese nationals. “More importantly, this partnership aims to foster trust and a sense of security among foreign investors, particularly our Chinese friends, in their investment activities in Cambodia,” he said.
Kov Kimhak, Chairman of Mazu Thaihang Cambodia Law Firm, said the firm was set up specifically to offer advisory, mediation, and legal services to both local and international clients—with a focus on Chinese investors, whom he described as Cambodia’s “ironclad friends.” The firm will prioritise investment, trade, real estate, and judicial protection in the courts.
He expressed confidence that this strategic legal partnership will play a key role in attracting more investors to Cambodia, thereby contributing to the country’s economic growth.
