The specific date for the opening of Techo International Airport will be announced within the next two weeks, following a clear assessment by the committee.
Soy Sokhan, Secretary of State of the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation and Chairman of the Committee to Lead, Manage, and Coordinate the Preparation of the Operation of Techo International Airport (Class 4F, Phase 1), made the remarks on May 2, 2025, during an inspection led by Mao Havannal, Minister in Charge of the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation, alongside relevant departments to assess the progress of the airport.
Sokhan stated that based on the report, the airport construction is nearly complete, with only the technical conditions for certification and operational readiness still under review. These aspects require a thorough assessment by the committee before the official opening date can be confirmed.
“After listening to the report and reviewing the overall situation, we see that construction is nearly finished. However, we are still assessing the technical conditions for the certification process and operational readiness. The minister has instructed the committee to thoroughly evaluate these aspects, and a final decision regarding the opening date will be made within two weeks,” Sokhan said.
He noted that, according to the plan, the opening is scheduled for July 10, 2025. However, this date remains tentative, pending the outcome of the evaluation.
He also confirmed that once Techo International Airport begins operations, all flights currently operating at Phnom Penh International Airport will be transferred to the new facility.
Techo International Airport, covering approximately 2,600 hectares across Kandal and Takeo provinces, is around 94 percent complete. The project is being developed by CAIC, a joint venture between the Royal Government of Cambodia and OCIC, at a total cost of about $1.5 billion. It is a Class 4F international airport capable of accommodating all types of large aircraft worldwide.
