Vietnam currently holds 215 investment projects in Cambodia, focusing on agriculture, telecommunications, banking, financial services, food processing, mining, aviation, and tourism, according to Nguyen Minh Vu, Ambassador of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to the Kingdom of Cambodia.
Speaking to AKP on the occasion of the 58th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Cambodia, the Ambassador noted that Vietnam’s total registered capital in Cambodia has reached $2.94 billion, making it one of the top four foreign direct investors in the country.
Vietnamese investment is present in 18 out of Cambodia’s 25 capital and provincial areas, concentrated in sectors vital to Cambodia’s economic and social development. Nguyen Minh Vu highlighted that many Vietnamese projects are operating steadily and efficiently, making significant contributions to Cambodia’s economic infrastructure, job creation, income generation, social welfare, and humanitarian efforts.
The Ambassador added that more Vietnamese businesses are preparing new investments or planning to expand their current operations in Cambodia. Several enterprises are actively exploring business opportunities in Phnom Penh and key provinces, including Svay Rieng, Kampot, Takeo, Kratie, Mondulkiri, Rattanakiri, Preah Sihanouk, and Preah Vihear.
Vietnamese investors are particularly interested in large-scale agriculture, agro-processing, telecommunications, information technology (including 5G, e-government, and digital transformation), renewable energy, mining, and construction. Other areas of interest include real estate, construction materials manufacturing, and infrastructure development.
To further encourage Vietnamese investment in Cambodia, the Vietnamese diplomat suggested organising more promotional events such as the Cambodia-Vietnam Business Forum, bilateral investment promotion meetings, tourism exhibitions, and the establishment of special economic zones along the border. These efforts aim to deepen and strengthen bilateral investment cooperation.
As a concrete example, the Ambassador cited the Vietnam-Cambodia Business Dialogue held on April 2, 2025, co-organised by the Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia and the Vietnam-Cambodia Business Association (VCBA), which drew the participation of over 150 Vietnamese companies keen to invest in Cambodia.
Nguyen Minh Vu expressed confidence that the strong diplomatic and political ties, cultural proximity, and improving investment climate in both countries will create favourable conditions for expanded business collaboration, bringing tangible benefits to enterprises and citizens on both sides.
“The Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia will continue working closely with relevant agencies in both countries to support and promote Vietnamese businesses in launching new investments or expanding existing ones in Cambodia,” the Ambassador affirmed. AKP
