PHNOM PENH – Masahiko Metoki, Director General of the Universal Postal Union (UPU), has reaffirmed the UPU’s continued support for the postal sector in Cambodia.
During a courtesy call on Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh yesterday, Masahiko praised the progress and success of the project to modernise postal operations in Cambodia, which has support from the UPU and Japan.
The UPU Director General attributed the success to Cambodia’s commitment to improving the sector and considered the Kingdom a model country in efforts to modernise the postal sector.
Masahiko also thanked the Royal Government of Cambodia for hosting the 2024 Asian-Pacific Postal Union Executive Council (APPU-EC) Meeting on Aug. 12-14 in Siem Reap province, reflecting Cambodia’s attention to the importance of postal network building.
In response, Mr Hun Manet spoke highly of the UPU’s cooperation in Cambodia’s postal modernization, which contributes to the country’s socio-economic development.
The Cambodian Premier also encouraged the UPU to continue supporting and sharing its experience and know-how related to technology and capabilities in the postal sector with Cambodia. AKP
