The total weight of goods transported by road within Cyprus increased by 9.1 per cent during the second quarter of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023, according to a report from the Cyprus Statistical Service (Cystat).
In addition, the report showed that road freight to and from Cyprus also saw a rise, with the transported weight increasing by 9.5 per cent during the same period.
For the first half of 2024, the total weight of goods moved by road domestically rose by 6.3 per cent compared to the same period in 2023, while international road freight recorded a 4.3 per cent increase.
The ton-kilometres for road freight within Cyprus—a metric combining the weight of goods transported and the distance covered—jumped by 12.4 per cent in the second quarter of 2024 compared to the previous year.
Furthermore, for road freight to and from Cyprus, ton-kilometres also grew by 6.7 per cent during the same period.
For the first half of 2024, ton-kilometres for domestic road freight increased by 6.4 per cent year-on-year, while international road freight ton-kilometres remained unchanged.
