Cambodia Association of Travel Agents (CATA) on Tuesday requested the Ministry of Tourism (MoT) to arrange trips for groups of international tourists and investors to explore the Kingdom this year. It also urged the ministry to facilitate their transportation as well as introduce the tourism potential investment sectors aimed at contributing to the socioeconomic development of the country.

Sok Soken, Minister of MoT, received a courtesy call from a delegation led by Chhay Sivlin, President of CATA.

During the meeting, Sivlin sought the ministry’s support for the implementation of CATA’s 2024 action plan and upcoming activities.

Soken appreciated the efforts of CATA in the past to attract international tourists to visit the nation by creating remarkable events and significant activities which strongly contributed to the promotion of the tourism industry.

He emphasised that to successfully promote our tourism sector to become more resilient, competitive and inclusive, MoT needs cooperation from all related stakeholders, institutions and especially the private sector as their participation will be the key factor in contributing to significant socioeconomic development in the country.

Speaking to Khmer Times, Sivlin said that CATA is arranging an international caravan travel trip for a group of luxury cars coming to visit the country this year and we need support from the MoT to facilitate their transportation as they are coming on land all the way from England which is in line with the ‘Visit Siem Reap 2024’ campaign.

Besides, celebrities and a large group of reporters and journalists representing media outlets in France, India, Australia and the United Arab Emirates will also take part in the upcoming trip to help promote the Kingdom’s potential tourism destinations. Some 50 media representatives will also accompany the group, she said.

Sivlin said, “The discussion also covered the preparation to welcome foreign investors next month as the CATA board will lead many leaders and chairmen of the companies coming from major towns in China to explore the potential investment opportunities in the Kingdom tourism sector.

Realising the importance of the preparation, the Minister appreciated CATA’s efforts and thanked the association for actively participating with MoT in the restoration and promotion of the tourism sector in the nation.
