Foreign investment creates many job opportunities for Cambodians

The Secretary of State and Spokesman of the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training Katta Orn said that the growth of foreign investment this year in Cambodia is an important factor in creating job opportunities for people.

Orn said that the growth of foreign investment is an important factor in creating job opportunities in various industries, especially in the textile and garment industries, as many new factories have been registered this year.

He emphasised that the government’s policy is to attract foreign investment, and decades of sustainable peace is an important factor in attracting foreign direct investment and creating jobs.

He noted that as of October this year, through the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), 30 new foreign investment projects have been approved and one project has been expanded to create 16,000 new jobs in Kampong Speu, Svay Rieng, Preah Sihanouk, Phnom Penh, Kandal, Kampong Cham, Kampong Chhnang, Kampong Thom, Kampot, Koh Kong, Takeo and Preah Vihear provinces.

These new investment projects include the establishment of garment, footwear, bags, and furniture factories.

He added that securing employment is not difficult now because many job opportunities in Phnom Penh and other provinces are announced almost every week by the Ministry. He called on all Cambodians to seize the opportunity to improve their livelihoods.

He added that people can opt for local or oversees employment, but he stressed to consider local opportunities that offer the same benefits as the neighbouring countries, such as a decent wages, workplaces near one’s home, with lower travel costs, enabling people to save.

Hem Chanveasna, a job seeker, said that he came to National Employment Agency (NEA), at the Ministry to obtain information on job opportunities.

He said the NEA always announces job openings in many sectors, so it’s easy for job seekers to find information on companies recruiting.

“I came to NEA to get some information related to job opportunities, they informed me of the companies recruiting, the positions available. They said I should prepare my CV and be ready to receive an interview,” he added
