The opening of Salina Park, Larnaca’s newest urban green space, has been delayed by two months due to the summer heatwave.
The park, which was originally slated for completion in August, is now expected to open in October.
Mayor Andreas said that the contractor was granted justified extensions due to the extreme weather conditions.
The 14,000-square-meter park is located in the Drosia area and will be a major addition to the city centre’s green lungs, along with the Municipal Garden.
The park will feature a lake with a cafe and pedestrian bridge, a palm tree garden, an amphitheatre, an events space, a children’s playground, and a sports area. Additional tall trees will be planted to enhance the existing greenery, and indigenous species will be added.
Salina Park will have two main entrance gates, one on Leonida Kiouppis Street and one on Grivas Digenis Avenue, as well as secondary pedestrian gates behind two listed buildings.
The project, which is co-financed by the EU’s Cohesion Policy Programme THALIA 2021-2027, has a total cost of €2.4 million plus VAT.
