Metfone network reaches 98 percent of Cambodian population

Over the years, Metfone has pursued the strategy of ‘infrastructure first, business later’,

bringing telecommunication services to the farthest and remote areas of Cambodia. The celebration marks Metfone’s 15-year journey leaving its footprint across the country

Viettel Cambodia (Metfone), a leading mobile operator in Cambodia has provided network coverage to 98 percent of the population in the country, contributing over $1 billion to the Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC).

This was announced during the 15th anniversary of Metfone’s service inauguration ‘The Met’s Sonata’ presided over by Tea Seiha, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense of Cambodia along with Nguyen Huy Tang, Ambassador of Vietnam to Cambodia and Tao Duc Thang, Chairman and CEO of Viettel Group in Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel & Residence, yesterday.

Presiding over the ceremony, Seiha appreciated the contributions of Viettel Group to the Kingdom and expressed the desire to continue developing the good relationship between the Cambodian government and Viettel Group.

He said, “I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the generations of leaders of Viettel Group and the leadership of Metfone for bringing many benefits and contributing to the economic and social development of our country. Metfone has brought telecommunications services and information technology to everywhere and helped improve the lives of the Cambodian people.”

I hope that the cooperation relationship between the Cambodian government and members of Viettel Group will continue to develop strongly and deeply, bringing even more benefits to both sides, contributing significantly to the economic and social development of our country, he added.

According to Metphone sources, the company has contributed over $1 billion to the Cambodian Government, ranking top five highest tax-paying enterprises and leading in the telecommunications sector.

Additionally, the cumulative amount devoted by Metfone to social activities and community sponsorship reached $120 million this year, the statement added.

The theme ‘The Met’s Sonata’ aimed to convey the message that Metfone has been, is and will continue to create valuable contributions to the people and the nation of Cambodia.

Since its inception on February 19 2009, Metfone has pursued the strategy of ‘infrastructure first, business later’, bringing telecommunication services to the farthest and most remote areas of Cambodia.

The celebration vividly portrayed Metfone’s 15-year journey leaving its footprint across Cambodia, and providing mobile coverage to 98 percent of the population.

During the event, four Royal Monisaraphon Medals were awarded to individuals, collectives of Viettel Group and Metfone for their contributions to the development of Cambodia. khmertimeskh
