MoT holds first plenary meet to facilitate tourists at int’l border gates

The Ministry of Tourism (MoT) yesterday in

its first plenary meeting with the inter-ministerial commission discussed the revision of the Cambodia Tourism Board to provide better experiences for passengers and tourists at the international border gates across the country.

The Cambodia Tourism Board will consist of two representatives from the Cambodian Oknha Association (COA), one representative from the Cambodian Chamber of Commerce (CCC), three from the Cambodia Tourism Association (CATA) and one each from Cambodia Angkor Air, AirAsia Cambodia, VINCI Airport and Angkor International Airport Investment (Cambodia) Co Ltd.

Addressing the plenary meeting, Minister of Tourism Sok Soken highlighted the commitment of the Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) to help the tourism sector recover from the Covid-19 crisis and raise the industry to among the priority sectors mentioned in the Pentagonal Strategies – Phase One as well as setting out several strategies and policies to lure more tourists in the country.

He recalled the efforts of the government including the meeting between Prime Minister Hun Manet and the private sector in November last year, the China-Cambodia exchange year programme last month, and the operation of the new international airport in Siem Reap province which has become a historical project of the Kingdom connecting tourists from the thousand-mile destinations.

Soken emphasised that this first inter-ministerial meeting focuses on collecting information and major factors to further improve the experiences of international tourists, passengers and travellers at the border gate by revising the Cambodia Tourism Marketing and Promotion Committee which was suspended during the Covid-19 crisis in 2019.

“After getting all the crucial reports based on the reality that happening at all the borders, I will bring this issue to discuss with the private sector representatives this evening, selecting the composition of the tourism working group,” the Minister said.

The objective of the first plenary meeting is to speed up the procedures at all international border gates in the Kingdom, allowing domestic and foreign tourists to access or exit the country happily by shifting away obstacles and unnecessary processes which delay the passenger’s plan causing inconveniences.

The Minister explained that the Cambodia tourism committee will consist of 14 members of which seven seats will be provided to the private sector representatives, seven more will be reserved for the public sector and one seat is for the Ministry of Tourism.
The discussion held at the ministry was attended by Hor Sarun, Secretary of State of MoT, senior officials and leaders from related ministries and institutions coming from different capitals and provinces nationwide. khmertimeskh
