Paphos long-awaited road regeneration project moves forward

The long-discussed regeneration project for the central avenue linking Kato Paphos to Coral Bay through Chloraks and Kissonerga is finally on the path to implementation after two decades of deliberation among Paphos stakeholders.

The project, which is being developed in two phases, aims to significantly enhance road safety for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists.

The first phase has already seen the introduction of safety interventions for pedestrians and cyclists, with more extensive improvements set to follow in the second phase, focusing on increased safety for drivers.

In parallel with the coastal works, Paphos has also seen the completion of city centre upgrades, notably the modernisation of Michalaki Kyprianou Avenue.

Akamas Mayor Marinos Lambrou highlighted this effort as a key initiative to improve safety in the area.

“This is a large, two-phase project,” explained Lambrou. “The first phase, covering a two-kilometre stretch, cost €2.5 million and will be funded by the Municipality of Paphos. The second phase, a town planning project, will require an additional €5 million.”

The regeneration of the central road axis in Paphos will also include the installation of modern lighting, the construction of pavements, tree planting, and the under-grounding of cables, in efforts to enhance the area’s infrastructure.
