His Excellency Nikos Christodoulides, President of Republic of Cyprus: It was with great honor and emotion that I met today in New York with a delegation from the Pan-Pontian Federation of the USA and Canada, led by President Mr. Kostas Tsilfidis, at their invitation to present me with the ‘Harry Psomiadis Award.’
I have repeatedly participated in many events for the Pontic Hellenism, both in Cyprus and abroad, and I always meet with them with great joy.
In Cyprus, we have a very strong Pontic community, which we are particularly proud of, as they work hard to face challenges and keep the memory of Pontic Hellenism alive.
During our meeting, I informed them of our government’s decision to establish a Day of Remembrance and Honor for Pontic Hellenism in our schools, as well as the Republic of Cyprus’s decision to grant three scholarships to students in the Department of Byzantine and Greek Studies at Queen’s College, each worth $5,000, in memory of Evagoras Pallikaridis, Nikos Kapetanidis, and Harry Psomiadis
